Comparison is the thief of joy.

The words of Theodore Roosevelt hold their truth still to this day. If you want to ruin your good mood—step into the comparison trap and more likely than not — your good spirits will disappear.

​The comparison trap is a psychological phenomenon that we all fall into from time to time.

It’s very human to compare ourselves with others.

But it can also be very toxic.

The comparison trap often leads to feelings of inadequacy, jealousy, low self-esteem, and dissatisfaction with your own life, even if there’s nothing wrong with your own life.

When you fall into the comparison trap you’ll most likely be measuring your own success, accomplishments, abilities, skills, or abilities to other people.

There are numerous everyday situations in which the comparison trap can manifest in your life.

Scrolling through social media is one of them.
